At elementary school, he studied    at Centro de Educación General Básica in San Miguel. Later, he completed his high school studies at Liceo N.6 Andrés Bello    located in San Miguel as well. José studied English Teaching at USACH. He finished his university studies in 1984 and then he started to work as a teacher in different places. He had his first job at    an institute called Instituto Comercial Libertador Bernardo O’higgins . He worked there for about ten years.
